State Regulatory Authorization

Laws exist in each state that govern an institution of higher education’s ability to offer programs in that state. The University of Tennessee is committed to on-going monitoring of such laws.

The University of Tennessee is currently authorized, licensed, exempt, not subject to approval or is permitted to deliver online education to students in the following states:

*Note: All states, unless indicated by an asterisk, have been authorized via state membership with NC-SARA. Exceptions include: CA, FL and MA, as these states have been authorized by ‘exempt’ status.

If you are enrolled in or interested in a program that requires significant clinical placement time, student teaching time or other prolonged field work for academic credit, please check with your program coordinator about restrictions based on your location. UT may participate in a limited number of field placements in other NC-SARA member states; only student initiated placements are allowed in Florida and New Jersey.

Please be aware that students located in Puerto Rico or the U.S. Territories of Guam, American Samoa, and the Virgin Islands may not enroll in UT online programs at this time.
